Job summary

City of Leawood, Kansas is seeking an Experienced Project Engineer to join the Public Works Department. You will lead planning, design, and delivery of capital improvement and public infrastructure projects from scope through construction, coordinating with consultants, contractors, and city staff.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering leadership, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects and budgets.

Qualifications

Must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited engineering school.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in civil engineering design, construction, project management, or equivalent.
Must hold and maintain a valid PE license; must obtain Kansas registration within 1 year if licensed elsewhere.

Responsibilities

Coordinate planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure projects (streets, bridges, storm sewer, signals, lighting, parks).
Coordinate planning, design, and construction of publicly owned facilities.
Coordinate consultant design projects for accuracy and codes compliance.
Assist with private development projects relating to traffic and public infrastructure.
Collaborate with inspectors and contractors to enforce construction contracts.
