Unified Government of Wyandotte County in Kansas City, KS is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer/Project Manager for the Public Works Engineering Division to plan, design, construct, and deliver major capital projects valued around $400 million over the next three years.

The ideal candidate will bring strong civil engineering design and construction knowledge, with proven project management, budgeting, and financial reporting skills, plus excellent communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management, 6 years as a PE or CAPM, or equivalent.
• Experience managing high-volume programs with aggressive schedules and budgets.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects through planning, design, construction, and closeout.
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers and PMs.
• Develop scopes of work and review proposals and construction documents.
• Evaluate projects for constructability, quality, and cost effectiveness.
• Assist with budgets, cost estimates, financial reporting, and risk assessment.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, inspectors, and divisions.
• Monitor construction activities and ensure compliance with plans.
• Identify and resolve design and construction issues.
• Participate in inspections, punch lists, and closeout.
• Review as-built drawings and O&M manuals.
• Support capital planning and long-term maintenance improvements.
