Job summary

City of Owensboro is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a broad fleet of City vehicles, including police, fire, and transit assets. The role emphasizes diagnostics, parts usage, and proper documentation within a busy shop.

Starting pay is $27.83 per hour. A valid Kentucky driver’s license is required; a Class B CDL is preferred with completion within 11 months. Benefits include insurance, wellness, and retirement programs as part of public service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum two years of diesel mechanic experience or four years in a public works department.
• Valid driver’s license; Kentucky Class B CDL required within 11 months (preferred).
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with preventive maintenance and vehicle repairs for City fleet.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on City vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot using diagnostic equipment.
• Complete component installations and scheduled maintenance.
• Maintain labor logs, parts usage and warranty documentation.
• Assist with vehicle specifications and purchasing recommendations.
• Ensure shop safety and respond to emergency service calls as needed.
