Job summary

City of Bedford seeks a team member to support Water Utility Billing and Customer Services. Responsibilities include reading meters, activating and terminating services, and assisting in meter maintenance.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, valid Texas driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Texas B CDL within 6 months. Strong reading/writing skills and safety awareness are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Read water meters electronically and manually; activate/terminate services.
  • Assist in repair of water and wastewater main lines and services.
  • Assist in repair/maintenance of valves and hydrants.
  • Assist Water Quality crew with flushing and hydrant maintenance.
  • Assist Meter crew with readings and maintenance on water meters.
  • Assist Wastewater crew with routine maintenance.
  • Assist Public Works divisions as needed, including standby and emergency callback.
  • Perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
  • Utilize standard office equipment, such as copiers and computers.
  • Adhere to all City and department safety rules and procedures.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.

SUMMARY

Under direct supervision completes daily work orders related to Water Utility Billing and Customer Services including reading water meters both electronically and manually, service activation and termination, water meter maintenance, and customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Receive written work orders or verbal instructions from Utility Crew Chief.
  2. Assist in the repair of water and wastewater main lines and services.
  3. Assist in the repair and maintenance of valves and hydrants
  4. Assist Water Quality crew with routine flushing and hydrant maintenance.
  5. Assist Meter crew with readings and maintenance on water meters
  6. Assist Wastewater crew with routine maintenance
  7. Assists Public Works divisions as needed, including standby and emergency callback.
  8. Perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.
  9. Utilize standard office equipment, such as copiers and computers.
  10. Adhere to all City and department safety rules and procedures.
  11. Regular and timely attendance is required as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma/GED. Some related experience and/or training preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain a Texas B Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

SPECIALIZED KSA’S

Working knowledge of street, water, wastewater and drainage maintenance procedures and equipment operating practices.
