Job summary

The City of Grain Valley is seeking a semi-skilled Maintenance Worker to support water, sewer, street, and storm drain maintenance. Duties include operating equipment, reading water meters, and assisting in snow/ice removal, with supervision by the Public Works Crew Leader.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and the ability to obtain a Missouri Class A CDL within six months. Preferred candidates have related field experience or a related degree, and water/sanitation

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent required.
• Must be able to acquire State of Missouri Class A CDL within first 6 months of employment.
• Two years experience in related field or associates degree preferred.
• Pertinent water and sanitary certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs street maintenance activities with minimal supervision in the field.
• Cleans storm drains and drainage ditches.
• Performs semi-skilled related work on water and sewer lines and associated equipment.
• Reads water meters.
• Activates and terminates water supply in residential domains.
• Assist in the removal of snow and ice on City streets.
• Operates small and heavy equipment.
• Performs general repairs and routine maintenance on City buildings and facilities.
• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Perform semi-skilled labor related activities involved with maintenance of water lines and appurtenances, sanitary sewer systems, streets and storm drains and other maintenance as directed. Perform routine and unique maintenance of equipment, infrastructure and facilities to provide longevity and cost-effective solutions while improving knowledge of City assets.

Knowledge Of

• Confined space, equipment operation, pumping operations, and street maintenance

• Follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner

Work Environment

• The primary duties of this position are performed in a public building environment and outdoors and may include working on rooftops and in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment and hazardous chemicals.
