Job summary

The City of New Ulm is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks across streets, infrastructure, facilities, grounds, and equipment. You will support a variety of public works operations, including street and utility maintenance, stormwater and sanitary sewer systems, snow removal, groundskeeping, cemetery work, and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in construction trades or related public works activities.
• A valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required, with tanker and air brake endorsement to be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
• This position is subject to federal CDL drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance and repairs to streets and surfaces.
• Repair asphalt, concrete, and other street maintenance activities.
• Maintain stormwater and sanitary sewer systems and components.
• Install, maintain, and repair street signs and traffic-control devices.
• Maintain city-owned trees and grounds and perform landscaping duties.
• Winter maintenance including plowing, salting, and snow removal.
• Assist with cemetery operations and grounds maintenance.
• Operate and perform maintenance on city vehicles and equipment.
• Perform basic carpentry, masonry, and general facility upkeep.
• Set up work-zone traffic control and follow safety procedures.
• Follow safety protocols and participate in required training and licensing.
• Maintain records and communicate with supervisors and the public.
