Job summary

City of Palmdale in California seeks an entry-level Maintenance Helper to support the Public Works Maintenance Division. You will perform unskilled to semi-skilled tasks across building, park, street and related facilities under supervision.

The full salary range for this position is $19.17 - $22.20 per hour, with an expected hiring range of $19.17 - $20.11. A high school diploma or GED and California driver’s license are required; one year of relevant experience is typical.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and completion of at least one course from a vocational school or similar program.
• Experience: One year performing work similar to Maintenance Helper duties is common.
• Valid California driver’s license and vehicle insurance are required by appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in servicing heating and air conditioning units.
• Assist in painting City buildings and facilities.
• Assist in changing light bulbs.
• Assist in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs and maintenance.
• Clean and care for tools and equipment.
• Maintain turf by mowing, edging, fertilizing, spraying and watering.
• Perform basic landscaping tasks such as weeding and fertilizing.
• Prune trees using hand and chain saws.
• Install, repair, and maintain sprinkler systems.
• Control weeds by hand pulling, whipping, and spraying.
• Empty trash containers and clean grounds.
• Perform routine street maintenance activities.
