Job summary

The City of Irvine invites applications for the Maintenance Worker Apprenticeship, a full-time, 14-month program running roughly from late October 2026 through December 31, 2027. This apprenticeship provides on-the-job training across streets, parks, facilities, and infrastructure maintenance, with postings for post-apprenticeship opportunities being possible but not guaranteed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience in automobile services, construction, roadway repair, landscape, or facilities maintenance is preferred.
Valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
Must be able to sit, stand, climb stairs and ladders, twist, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of manual labor tasks to support maintenance of City facilities, streets, equipment and parks.
Maintain, repair, and clean park amenities and facilities; remove graffiti and perform light construction as needed.
Inspect and replace light bulbs, doors, locks, and basic fixtures; patch drywall and touch up paint.
Perform general facility upkeep, cleaning gutters, washing walls, and maintaining walkways.
Provide plumbing support by unclogging drains and inspecting for leaks and corrosion.
Ensure electrical safety by testing outlets and emergency lights; respond to leaks, power outages, and alarms.
