Job summary

Borough of State College seeks a Public Works Laborer with CDL to support maintenance of trees, landscapes, streets, sewers, and public properties at State College Service Building. The role includes refuse collection and operation of vehicles/equipment, reporting to the Foreman and coordinating with the Arborist and Operations Manager.

Qualifications

• High School education, some prior work experience in tree care is preferred.
• CDL with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction obtained within four months of employment.
• Confined Space Certification and Work Zone Traffic Control Training must be completed within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain trees and public landscapes, repair streets and sewers, and maintain public property.
• Perform minor carpentry and construction tasks as needed.
• Safely operate vehicles and equipment; collect refuse and bulk items.
• Take daily assignments from a Public Works Foreman and report to Arborist or Operations Manager.

Public Works Laborer - CDL

Location: State College Service Building

Requirements

The Public Works Laborer position includes a variety of semi-skilled and skilled level work in the maintenance of trees and public landscapes, repair and maintenance of streets and sewers, maintenance of public property, and minor carpentry and construction tasks. The Public Works Laborer position is also responsible for the collection of refuse and bulk items and for the safe operation of vehicles and equipment used in all tasks. The Public Works Laborer will report to the Arborist, Operations Manager, or Refuse and Organics Manager and receives daily work assignments and responsibilities from a Public Works Foreman.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School education and some previous work experience in the care of trees.
• Must obtain Confined Space Certification, Work Zone Traffic Control Training within 12 months and a Class B commercial driver's license (with tanker endorsement and without air brake restriction) within four (4) months of employment.
• Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
