Job summary

City of Norton Shores is seeking an experienced Public Works Director to lead the Department of Public Works, overseeing engineering, water and sewer, streets, drainage, solid waste, and facilities. You will plan long-term programs, set departmental policies, and supervise multiple divisions to keep infrastructure and services moving forward.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Public Administration, PE preferred, and at least five years of progressive

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles for municipal public works.
• Experience in street, water, sewer, and related public works operations.
• Ability to plan, supervise, and implement engineering projects.
• Strong decision-making and policy development skills.
• Valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Manage the divisions within the Department of Public Works.
• Oversee design, plans, estimates, and inspection of infrastructure projects.
• Prepare annual department budget and capital improvement plan.
• Coordinate with city and external agencies on projects.
• Attend council and public meetings to explain programs.
• Maintain records of streets, water, and sewer systems and facilities.
• Supervise the City Engineer and department staff.
• Coordinate with other city departments.
• Select materials and equipment for public works projects.
• Serve as City representative on Water Authority Board and other committees.
