Job summary

The City of Dover’s Utilities team seeks a skilled operator to run heavy equipment used in public works construction and maintenance, including bulldozers, graders, rollers, snow removal machinery, loaders and backhoes. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a strong benefits package and a wage of $25.19–$36.47 per hour.

Responsibilities include operating and maintaining equipment, directing crew work, and performing routine service and repairs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of experience operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment.
• NH CDL B with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements; CDL-A preferred.
• Certification for NE Collection Systems Operator Grade II and NH Water Distribution Grade II.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment for road work and facility upkeep.
• Service equipment and perform minor repairs; report major issues.
• Direct work of crew members on maintenance tasks.
• Operate vehicles safely and in compliance with laws and policies.
• Prepare equipment for snow removal and seasonal tasks.
• Perform semi-skilled tasks when not operating equipment.
• Follow safety practices and traffic laws related to heavy equipment.
• Maintain availability for emergencies.
• Foster effective relationships with staff, other departments and the public.
• Adhere to safe work procedures and standards.
• Perform other related duties as required.
