Job summary

City of Suffolk is seeking a skilled para-professional engineer and GIS specialist to support the Public Works Department. Under general supervision, you will perform advanced drafting, GIS tasks, and data management for water, sewer, and roadway projects.

You will liaise with developers, contractors, and the public; maintain records and assist in plan reviews; and help prepare public presentations. A two-year college degree and 3–5 years of civil engineering experience with a valid driver's

Qualifications

Two-year college or technical school degree in civil engineering or related field with 3–5 years of experience.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Knowledge of civil engineering principles as applied to public works and utilities.

Responsibilities

Performs GIS related activities and drafting work for the Public Works Department and other City departments.
Investigates complaints from the public pertaining to departmental services or programs.
Assists the public and consultants with locating file information, maps, etc.
Maintains department filing system and records for plans, including electronic files.
Locates stormwater features and verifies as-builts using GPS technology.
