Job summary

The City of Suffolk is seeking a motivated Maintenance Worker to perform skilled grounds keeping, maintenance, and construction tasks. You will inspect and service a range of equipment, operate backhoes, dump trucks, mowers, and other machines, and prepare reports for supervisors.

Responsibilities include minor repairs to water/sewer services, road maintenance, landscaping, and coordinating with teams on-site.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and 1 to 2 years of experience in grounds keeping, maintenance, and construction work.
• Equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and perform minor and preventative maintenance on equipment and machines.
• Operate a variety of equipment and perform related tasks.
• Prepare and submit reports to supervisors as required.
• May repair water and sewer services and maintain valves, hydrants, and sewers.
• May respond to service requests concerning sanitary sewer systems.
• Perform landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, and weed management.
• May oversee workers maintaining grounds and landscaping.
• Perform other related duties as required.
