Job summary

City of Aurora is hiring a Service Technician II in the Public Service department. Three full-time positions include road and cemetery maintenance, equipment operation, and collaboration with Water and Wastewater teams.

A 12-month probationary period applies, with a base union rate of $27.59/hr and a probationary rate of 95% for the first year. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license, be safety‑minded, and able to work outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving history; CDL preferred or must be obtained within six months into the probationary period.
• Broad knowledge of machinery, vehicles, and equipment operations.
• General knowledge of mechanics and technology.
• Responsible for the proper care and use of all tools and mechanical equipment.
• Mechanically inclined, safety conscious.
• Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
• Self-motivated with ability to work under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Follows all safety rules and procedures, reporting all safety concerns immediately.
• Operates city-owned vehicles and equipment, makes minor maintenance repairs, and reports major malfunctions to mechanic.
• Performs road repairs including filling potholes, sealing cracks, erecting signs/guardrails, berm work, snow and ice removal.
• Performs roadside maintenance including clearing right-of-way, mowing, ditch cleaning, installing culverts and storm basins, removing trees/obstacles.
• Performs cemetery maintenance; may excavate graves.
• Cooperates with Water Department to inspect water lines and flush hydrants.
• Cooperates with Wastewater Department to inspect/maintain underground lines and facilities.
• Maintains inventory of equipment, tools, and reports depletion to supervisors.
• Performs routine maintenance and housekeeping on work areas and equipment; reports malfunctions.
• Maintains daily work duty log and other written reports.
• Communicates effectively with employees, contractors, and residents.
• Performs other duties including snowplowing, leaf pickup, and minor building maintenance.
