Job summary

The General Laborer is an entry-level position within Walker County’s Public Works Department, responsible for providing manual labor and operational support to department personnel in performing routine maintenance, repairs, and other public works activities. The position operates on one of two regular work schedules: Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in construction or general maintenance preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class A/B preferred but not required for all applicants.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor and support public works crews.
• Operate mowing follower truck and assist with road maintenance.
• Weed eating, shoveling, and brush/tree cleanup as needed.
• Support safety signage, drainage cleaning, and basic equipment maintenance.
