Job summary

Hopewell in Virginia seeks a skilled maintenance and construction supervisor to lead a crew in the repair, maintenance, and construction of municipal facilities. You will coordinate equipment use, materials, and schedules, while ensuring safety and quality.

You will supervise staff, assign tasks, review progress, and respond to citizen inquiries. Weekend/holiday shifts may be required to support snow and emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with some supervisory experience in public works.
• Experience in maintenance, repair, and construction in municipal facilities is preferred.
• Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise crews and tasks.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in repair, maintenance, or construction of municipal facilities and systems.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure adherence to instructions.
• Requisitions equipment and materials; maintains inventory.
• Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints.
• Ensures adherence to safety requirements and policies.
• Assists with recruitment, selection, and supervision of department staff; directs and evaluates staff performance.
• Supervises operation of trucks, tractors, backhoes and related equipment.
