Job summary

The City of Asheville is seeking an Equipment Operator II in the Public Works Department to support the maintenance of roads, sidewalks, and storm drainage. You will operate heavy equipment, drive dump trucks, and perform field work on infrastructure projects with a focus on safety and traffic control.

A high school diploma or GED is required, with construction experience and heavy equipment operation preferred.

Qualifications

• (preferred) one year of construction experience and/or heavy equipment operation experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment and vehicles to maintain roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems.
• Drives dump trucks, loads materials, and performs site maintenance as directed.
• Performs routine equipment checks, fueling, and minor field repairs.
• Assists safety teams with traffic control and site protection during operations.
• Completes documentation and coordinates with supervisor as required.
