Job summary

The City of Oceanside is seeking a Consulting Assistant in the Development Services Department, Engineering Division. This temporary, part-time role provides professional expertise and project assistance in civil engineering, with duties spanning field surveying, plan review, and coordination with engineers.

The position runs up to 999 hours per fiscal year and does not include benefits. Requirements include at least 90 semester units in civil engineering and a valid California driver license.

Qualifications

• Completion of at least 90 semester units of civil engineering coursework.
• Two years' experience inspecting public works projects is preferred.
• California driver license required.
• Temporary, hourly, extra-help position; not to exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Responsibilities

• Inspect public works construction projects to ensure quality of work.
• Interpret construction plans, grade sheets, and specifications.
• Assist City Land Surveyor and engineers with project management and field/office surveying.
• Review progress payments and project schedules; assist with hydrology/hydraulic calculations.
