Job summary

The City of Wilmer is seeking a seasoned Public Works Director to provide executive-level leadership for the City’s Public Works operations and infrastructure. The role directs maintenance, operation, and long-range development of streets, water and wastewater systems, facilities, and related services, coordinating with City leadership and regulators to ensure safe and compliant delivery.

High school diploma or GED with 5+ years in public works/managing utilities.
Equivalent mix of education, training and relevant experience considered.
Strong leadership, budgeting, and project-management capabilities.
Knowledge of municipal operations and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Direct day-to-day operations of Public Works and supervise staff and contractors.
Oversee streets, drainage, water distribution, wastewater, facilities and fleet.
Develop short- and long-range infrastructure maintenance and capital plans.
Manage department budgets and monitor expenditures.
Coordinate with engineers, regulators, City Administrator and other departments.
Ensure compliance with City policies and applicable laws; respond to emergencies.
