Job summary

The City of Haltom City is seeking a full-time Public Works Crew Leader to supervise maintenance crews, oversee utilities, and ensure safe, timely projects for Haltom City residents.

You will coordinate orders, manage field crews, and perform hands-on landscaping and drainage work while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience supervising public works maintenance crew activities with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class A Texas driver’s license is required.
• Licensure or ability to obtain Class C Water Distribution or Class II Wastewater Collection licenses.

Responsibilities

• Oversee timely maintenance of utilities including landscapes, storm drains, and right-of-way systems.
• Process maintenance work orders, schedule jobs by urgency, and delegate to crew members.
• Order parts from vendors and supervise heavy equipment maintenance.
• Write equipment specifications and maintain compliant departmental records.
• Ensure safety practices and quality standards are met; perform hands-on landscaping and drainage work.
• Operate heavy equipment (forklifts, bulldozers, backhoes) when needed and respond to public inquiries.

ROLE HIGHLIGHTS:

Our Public Works Crew Leader plays a hands-on role in keeping our community safe by overseeing the timely maintenance of utilities such as landscapes, storm drains, underground drainage systems, traffic controls, and right-of-way systems. You'll process maintenance work orders, schedule jobs based on urgency/priority, and delegate projects to crew members. To support efficient job completion, you'll proactively order parts from vendors, oversee heavy equipment maintenance, help write equipment specifications, and maintain accurate, compliant departmental records.

As crews complete routine and emergency work, you'll check in to make sure quality standards are met and safety practices are followed. You'll also perform hands-on work yourself, including general landscaping duties (mowing, weeding, tree trimming, etc.), underground drainage repairs/installations, and heavy equipment operation (forklifts, bulldozers, backhoes, and more). You're a key resource for your team and the community, and you'll jump in where needed to support other public works divisions/city departments and professionally respond to public inquiries or complaints.

What You Need:

• 3+ years of experience supervising public works maintenance crew activities with a high school diploma (or equivalent) OR equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid Class A Texas state driver's license
• Licensure or ability to obtain certification such as a Class C Water Distribution License or Class II Wastewater Collection License
