Job summary

The County of El Paso invites applications for the Civil Engineer, Intermediate position based in Fabens, Texas. The role reports to the Fabens Warehouse, and you will oversee civil engineering plans, reviews, and construction projects in support of county public works.

You will lead design efforts, coordinate with other departments, ensure compliance with regulations, manage schedules and budgets, and provide expert technical guidance to officials and contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field with four years' road and building construction experience, plus two years' plan reviews, cost estimates and inspections.
• Experience in subdivision, storm water and floodplain management.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training acceptable.
• Must have or obtain by hire date a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Preferred E.I.T. certification and continuing education requirements for licensure (Texas and National).

Responsibilities

• Ensure policies meet statutory requirements and established engineering standards; advise on major operational changes as directed.
• Review construction plans, schedule projects, and review costs, with progress records and ‘as built’ data.
• Issue certificates of plat compliance and coordinate reviews of subdivisions.
• Design and supervise in-house civil engineering plans and review work by contract staff.
• Establish design criteria and parameters for civil projects; prioritize and schedule work to meet deadlines.
• Coordinate with public works users on capital improvement projects and funding prospects.
• Provide technical advice to County departments and explain services to stakeholders; prepare reports for officials.
