Job summary

Racine County in Wisconsin seeks a Staff Accountant to support the Public Works and Development Services Department with budgeting, financial reporting, and cost accounting across multiple funds. Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Two years of progressively responsible accounting/finance experience; government or fund accounting preferred.
• Strong computer skills with MS Excel, Word, Outlook; GAAP/GASB knowledge preferred.
• Tyler Munis or other ERP experience preferred; equivalent education/experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets across multiple funds.
• Prepare, review, and distribute financial reports as requested; support year-end close, adjusting entries, accruals, and audit workpapers.
• Process and reconcile accounts payable; verify invoices and purchase orders for accuracy and proper coding.
• Prepare and reconcile deposits and revenues; audit timesheets and usage reports for accuracy.
• Assist payroll processing and reconcile state reporting requirements; participate in process improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
