Job summary

Natural Systems Utilities is seeking a dependable Public Water Operator to support our Cape Cod and Southern New England service area. You will operate and maintain water facilities, manage site coverage, and ensure tasks are completed on time.

A MA Grade 2T Full Water license is required, with Grade 1T toward 2T considered. Responsibilities include routine operations, alarms response, and developing scopes of work.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • MA Grade 2T Full Water license required (Grade 1T considered toward 2T).
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate water facilities to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and assist with repairs.
  • Prepare work orders and resampling plans.
  • Maintain accurate records for operations, maintenance, and sampling.
  • Respond to alarms and communicate issues to Supervisor.
  • Develop scopes of work and estimate materials for repairs.

Role Summary:

NSU is seeking a skilled and dependable Public Water Operator to join our Operations team and support our Cape Cod and Southern New England service area. The Public Water Operator will provide operations and maintenance support at various water facilities as directed by the Operations Supervisor, while independently managing assigned site coverage and ensuring all responsibilities are completed within the allotted time.

The ideal candidate will be an organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently and effectively manage their time across multiple sites. A valid Massachusetts T2 Full Water license is required; candidates with a valid Massachusetts T1 Full Water license who are actively working toward obtaining their T2 Full license may also be considered. Responsibilities include routine operations and maintenance, assisting with developing scopes of work, preparing work orders for repairs or resampling, responding to alarms, and communicating with clients as needed.

NSU offers an opportunity to gain hands‑on experience operating and maintaining a variety of water facilities while working directly with experienced operations professionals. This position provides opportunities to develop technical skills, work independently in the field, and build strong relationships with clients and team members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor facility operations through critical testing to ensure system performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Operate and maintain water treatment facilities in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and assist with equipment repairs and removal.
  • Maintain accurate and complete operational, maintenance, sampling, and inspection records.
  • Submit required reports, sampling results, and regulatory documentation.
  • Identify plant issues and promptly communicate problems, repairs, and operational changes to the Supervisor.
  • Develop scopes of work and prepare work orders for repairs and resampling.
  • Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, timesheet, and expense records.
  • Work scheduled weekends and occasional holidays as needed.
  • Promote a professional and positive image when interacting with clients, regulators, engineers, and team members.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • MA Grade 2T Full Water Treatment license required. Candidates with a valid MA Grade 1T Full license who are actively working toward their Grade 2T Full license may also be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Distribution or wastewater licenses are a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
  • Must be available to work Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be willing to work overtime and respond to emergency situations as required.
  • Must be available to participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation.
