Job summary

Central City is seeking a Public Utilities Director to lead our water operations, treatment, distribution, and capital projects, ensuring safe, reliable potable water and regulatory compliance for the community. The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field, at least five years in municipal water operations, and three years of supervisory experience.

Colorado Class A and Class 3 certifications are required within six months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in municipal water operations, maintenance, or infrastructure management.
• Minimum three years of supervisory experience.
• Must obtain Colorado Class A Water Treatment Operator and Class 3 Water Distribution Operator within six months.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all phases of the city’s public water operations, including supply, treatment, distribution, and capital projects.
• Ensure safe, reliable potable water service and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee budgeting, contracts, and coordination with residents, developers, and regulators.
• Act as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) when required and participate in fieldwork and emergency responses.
