Public Trust and Police Integrity Unit Assistant State’s Attorney

Located in the historic financial district of Baltimore City, the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City (BCSAO) is responsible for prosecuting crimes in the largest jurisdiction in Maryland. Our mission emphasizes fairness, accountability, collaboration, technology-driven practices, and setting high standards for criminal justice. We aim to build community trust, hold offenders accountable, and offer diversion options for low-level offenders seeking resources for positive change.

The Public Trust and Police Integrity Unit (PTPIU) is composed of experienced trial attorneys tasked with objectively analyzing and prosecuting cases involving law enforcement misconduct. The unit investigates complaints related to excessive force, corruption, or illegal acts, reviewing cases involving any law enforcement officer within Baltimore City, with a focus on Baltimore Police Department internal affairs matters and cases against officers on or off duty.

Reporting directly to the division chief, the successful candidate will:

  1. Manage cases and investigations related to law enforcement misconduct, including working with officers from various agencies and responding to scenes of police-involved incidents.
  2. Review evidence related to investigations.
  3. Present evidence and witnesses in grand jury proceedings.
  4. Prepare and prosecute cases in Baltimore’s District and Circuit Courts.
  5. Draft memorandums summarizing investigations, applying relevant case law, and making recommendations on prosecution or declination.
  6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Juris Doctor degree, license to practice in Maryland or eligibility for admission, court and jury trial experience (preferably in felonies), and the ability to operate effectively in a high-volume environment while meeting deadlines.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

This is a full-time position with a virtual work-from-home option one day per week. It qualifies for Federal Student Aid Public Service Loan Forgiveness and offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision insurance, retirement plan, paid holidays, and leave entitlements. A criminal background check is required prior to employment.
