Job summary

The City of Coronado seeks an experienced Assistant Director of Public Services and Engineering to lead day-to-day operations of the department, oversee capital projects, and ensure safe, reliable public infrastructure.

Ideal candidate will have strong leadership, budget oversight, and the ability to mentor staff, coordinate with city managers and outside agencies, and uphold high customer service for residents and visitors.

Qualifications

• At least five (5) years of experience directing civil engineering projects; two years in supervision.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; master’s degree desirable.
• Valid Class C California Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
• Registration as Civil Engineer in California.
• Seven (7) years in public services management; two years management.
• Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Public Services and Engineering in managing and directing department services and activities, including Capital Improvement Program, land development review and permitting, traffic engineering, and maintenance of City infrastructure.
• Assist in the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies and priorities for each assigned service area.
• Establish staffing levels; monitor efficiency of service delivery; allocate resources as needed.
• Coordinate bidding procedures; prepare bid packages; advise Council on bids.
