Job summary

Oakland County, Michigan Government is seeking an on-site juvenile probation internship located in Pontiac or Troy. This role offers hands-on exposure to probation work, courtroom procedures, client advocacy, and data collection to support the Casework Services Department.

You’ll work closely with experienced probation professionals, contribute to meaningful casework, and gain insight into how public service shapes outcomes for youth in Oakland County.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a freshman or sophomore.
• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a junior or senior.
• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in a graduate degree program.

Responsibilities

• Assist probation staff in monitoring court‑ordered compliance, documenting progress, and supporting youth as they complete programs.
• Observe courtroom proceedings and learn how probation officers present cases and collaborate with judges.
• Participate in client interviews and mentorship activities to support youth and families.
• Help draft court reports, organize documentation, and prepare materials for hearings.
• Communicate with clients, families, schools, and agencies to share case information.
• Work on projects such as researching recidivism trends and data collection.
• Shadow probation officers to gain experience in case management and community engagement.
• Use department software and databases to support casework and data analysis.
