Job summary

Oakland County is offering an on-site internship in juvenile probation with duties spanning court procedures, client advocacy, compliance monitoring, and project work to support the Casework Services Department.

You will work closely with seasoned probation staff, gain hands-on experience, and learn how public service shapes outcomes for youth and families in Oakland County. The program emphasizes mentorship and real-world contribution.

Qualifications

• Freshman or sophomore status in college (steps 1-2 of salary range).
• Junior or senior status in college (steps 3-4).
• Graduate degree program status (steps 5-6).
• Reasonable ability to present ideas effectively, orally or in writing.
• Ability to utilize PC programs including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and Internet software.
• Knowledge of program analysis, evaluation, research methods and statistics.
• Plan and complete assignments within deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist probation staff in monitoring court-ordered compliance and document progress.
• Observe courtroom proceedings and learn how probation officers present cases.
• Participate in client interviews and mentorship activities to support youth and families.
• Help draft court reports, organize documentation, and prepare materials for hearings.
• Communicate with clients, families, service providers, schools, and agencies to collect or share information.
