Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Chief Counsel seeks a Title Attorney for Detroit, MI, with opportunities across multiple locations.

You will handle advanced title examination, conveyancing, and federal land acquisitions, contributing to civil actions and DOJ compliance. The role offers federal benefits, potential recruitment/relocation incentives, and a clear pathway through GS-12 to GS-14 grades based on experience.

Qualifications

• ABA-accredited law degree and active bar membership in a U.S. state, DC, or territory.
• Minimum of one year specialized experience in title and real property matters.
• Experience with federal land acquisition, conveyancing, and due diligence.
• Knowledge of DOJ Title Regulations and related regulations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide title review and conveyancing for CBP-funded land acquisitions.
• Draft deeds, sales/transfer agreements, and title opinions compliant with DOJ rules.
• Support DOJ as agency counsel in civil actions, including pleadings and eDiscovery.
• Research applicable laws and guidance on title review, land acquisition, and fiscal rules.
• Develop and deliver legal training to CBP managers and staff on title and acquisition topics.
