HERNANDO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE AL NIENHUIS, SHERIFF is seeking a Human Resources Manager to lead the Administrative Bureau HR operations, supervise staff, and serve as Acting Director when needed. The role requires discretion, strategic HR planning, and strong regulatory knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR management, public administration or related field.
• Minimum five years of HR or benefits administration experience.
• Valid Florida driver’s license.
• Experience in a governmental or law enforcement agency preferred.
• SHRM or HRCI certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead HR staff, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, counseling, and discipline.
• Oversee onboarding, benefits, FMLA, COBRA, EAP, and FRS administration.
• Review payroll-related forms and employee change requests; coordinate with Payroll.
• Ensure compliance with FLSA, EEO, ADA, ACA, I-9, and E-Verify.
• Develop HR policies and operational guidelines; support HRIS initiatives.
• Assist with ERP data conversion and HR-related reporting.
• Address employee relations, grievances and guidance to HR Director.
