Job summary

Pierce County's Finance & Enterprise Services Department is seeking a senior leader to build the county's enterprise data and AI program, reporting to the CIO. You will develop countywide data strategies, governance, and tools that support data-driven decision making across departments.

You will build and grow a multidisciplinary team, partner with departments to explore data warehouses, AI, privacy, and intelligent automation, and guide the organization in responsibly adopting AI to deliver

Qualifications

• Experience leading organization-wide programs that improve data and AI management across operations.
• Experience evaluating, implementing, and managing AI, automation, and emerging technologies to improve services and efficiency.
• Experience managing data systems, cloud platforms, and processes that ensure information is accurate, accessible, secure, and shareable.
• Experience developing and managing practices that protect sensitive information and ensure compliance.
• Experience leading and developing teams, advising executive leadership, and implementing organizational changes.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of a County-wide data and AI strategy aligned with priorities.
• Collaborate with CISO and CIO to define governance and accountability for data/AI.
• Establish standards for data quality, metadata, lineage, access, retention, and lifecycle.
• Oversee privacy program including privacy-by-design and data sharing requirements.
• Set standards for responsible AI, vendor risk, and security requirements.
• Direct the enterprise data architecture and operation of shared data platforms/services.
• Oversee the County’s AI and intelligent-automation portfolio and governance.
• Lead applied research, performance measurement, and data product development.
• Build and lead multidisciplinary teams; manage staff and succession planning.
• Develop county-wide data and AI literacy and foster a culture of stewardship.
