Job summary

Galveston County Human Resources is seeking a Budget Analyst to support the budget team in daily operations and respond to county personnel budget inquiries. The role focuses on assisting with the development of the county’s annual budget and related financial planning tasks.

You will help prepare the Budget Book, review submissions for completeness, and support audits and reporting. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to work across departments in a fast-paced government

Qualifications

• Requires two years of experience in budget management, auditing, government accounting, or related finance operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing the county's annual budget.
• Help prepare the annual Budget Book for DBP Award submission.
• Review budget submissions for completeness and accuracy; prepare amendments.
• Review departmental contracts.
• Analyze accounts for budgeting and prepare financial/statistical reports.
• Compile performance measures, workload efficiency, benchmarks and standards.
• Analyze department budgets to maintain expenditure controls.
• Answer questions on line items, object codes, funding sources; monitor spending and notify issues; maintain electronic budget files.
• Update position control schedules and salary worksheets; prepare backup docs for audits.
• Research historical budget data for trend comparisons.
