Job summary

State of Maryland is seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant II to support the FAMLI Division within the Maryland Department of Labor. The role ensures accurate processing of payments and maintenance of financial records in accordance with GAAP, state policies, and departmental procedures.

The position involves month-end close support, financial reporting, and audit readiness. It requires a computing mindset, attention to detail, and collaboration with the Financial Services team to maintain

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, including or supplemented by auditing credits.
Two years of experience examining, analyzing, and interpreting accounting records under GAAP.

Responsibilities

Process vendor invoices, claimant benefits, grants, refunds, and other payments per policies.
Prepare routine journal entries and maintain AP records.
Perform reconciliations and research discrepancies; escalate as needed.
Collaborate on month-end/year-end closings and prepare schedules/reports.
Manage bank accounts and ensure funds for payments and payouts.
Prepare financial analyses on payouts, refunds, and withholdings.
Support audits by gathering documentation and maintaining records.
