Stanford RegLab at Stanford University seeks a Senior Data Scientist to advance a diverse research program on public sector AI applications and policy. You will design and implement research projects with state-of-the-art models, mentor junior researchers, and contribute to publications.

You will work with large, diverse data sources, including health, environment, and legal text datasets, to drive impactful findings while upholding fairness and transparency in an interdisciplinary setting.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or analytic field and at least three years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python or a similar language, including debugging and writing maintainable code.
• Solid grounding in machine learning, NLP, and information retrieval methods for large or complex datasets.
• Experience with data modeling and database systems for both structured and unstructured data (e.g., SQL, document or vector stores).
• Experience building reliable, scalable data pipelines with attention to data quality and validation.
• Understanding of security best practices for web applications and backend systems (authentication, access control, handling sensitive data).
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including documenting systems, decisions, and recommendations.

Responsabilidades

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and external stakeholders to identify high-impact opportunities for applied data science in the public sector.
• Engage with partners to understand their data environments, shape project goals, and ensure outputs align with real-world needs.
• Adapt and refine existing AI models to align with public sector use cases, including fairness and interpretability.
• Develop and test prototype software and participate in release processes for new software.
• Prioritize and extract data from diverse sources and maintain accuracy and completeness.
• Create complex charts and databases, perform statistical analyses, and develop graphs for publication.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences through reports and presentations.
