Job summary

Stanford Law School's liftlab is seeking a Research Scientist to advance AI and frontier technologies for legal services. You will design, evaluate, and prototype AI tools, train models, and collaborate with Directors and staff across projects.

The role involves leadership, data-driven research, and communication to internal and external audiences, with a two-year fixed term and hybrid work arrangement in Stanford, CA.

Qualifications

• Three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
• Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.
• Strong listening, verbal, and written communicationskills.
• Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to use logic to calculate data and to train models.

Responsibilities

• Execute and administer research activities on AI and other legal technological developments; make recommendations on project development and implementation.
• Train classifiers, design/construct the architecture of AI platforms, build large language models (LLM) agents
• Oversee and support training of research assistants and student fellows
• Write and edit content for outputs (journal articles, white papers, grants) and assist with grants
• Represent the Lab and projects as a key contact and subject matter expert; develop communications for stakeholders
• Organize outreach activities such as events, partnerships, training, and conferences
• May assist in teaching and administration of AI & Law courses
• Create and advise in curriculum development and course improvements
