Scale AI’s Public Sector team is hiring an engineering manager to lead a 6–8 person software team building core products and cloud infrastructure for federal customers in Washington, DC.

You will blend technical planning with people leadership, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across product, security, and customer teams to meet complex compliance and performance needs. This role combines hands‑on coding with team growth and strategic execution.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full‑time engineering experience, post‑graduation.
• 2+ years of prior engineering management or equivalent experience.
• Experience scaling products at hyper‑growth startups.
• Excitement to work with AI technologies for the public sector.
• Strong track record as an individual contributor with mentoring.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with non‑technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Recruit a high‑performing engineering team.
• Drive engineering productivity; provide mentorship and technical leadership.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define and execute roadmaps.
• Navigate public sector compliance frameworks and deliver outcomes.
• Design and implement scalable backend systems for Federal customers.
• Develop distributed data‑intensive applications and ML tooling.
• Build robust backend systems as standalone products.
• Engage with customers to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
• Contribute to platform roadmap and product strategy for Federal business.
• Have or obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
