Job summary

The City of Austin Employees' Retirement System (COAERS) seeks an Accountant to support payroll, accounts payable, retirement benefits, and general ledger work in a hybrid Austin, TX office/remote setting.

Reporting to the CFO, you will maintain accurate financial records, deliver timely reports, ensure compliance with laws and internal controls, and provide service to internal and external stakeholders. A Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience are required; CPA is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field plus two years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with payroll processing and knowledge of employee benefits plans.
• Familiarity with governmental accounting standards and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Process and reconcile biweekly staff payroll and related accounting entries.
• Verify accounts payable transactions and maintain records.
• Administer monthly retirement benefit payments and related tax withholdings.
• Prepare general ledger journal entries and assist with month-end closing.
• Prepare financial reports and schedules for leadership and audits.
