Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance/economics/public or business administration or similar field as defined by department head.

Responsibilities

• Participates in the preparation of interim and annual financial statements and other financial reports.
• Prepares year-end working trial balances and other supporting accounting schedules and documents.
• Provides technical assistance to Auditor General staff.
• Collects, analyzes and balances financial and statistical data for all funds.
• Reviews and analyzes accounting transactions, validates account coding and maintains accounting records.
• Reviews, analyzes, balances and reconciles accounting activities.
• Prepares accounting operating procedures and detailed flow charts.
• Provides training on automated financial systems to departmental users.
• Monitors general ledger data for GAAP compliance.
• Implements changes to legislation affecting accounting, payroll, taxes, etc.
• Prepares data for monthly/quarterly/annual reports (e.g., 941, sales tax, W-2s, 1099s).
• Prepares audit work sheets, schedules, reports and supporting documentation for annual financial reports.
• Reviews and generates reports from automated financial systems.
• Provides central billing and collection services.
• Evaluates impacts of changes to automated financial systems and recommends improvements.
• Develops specifications for changes to accounting transactions for interfaces.
• Monitors cash, property tax, LGIP statements, and interest accruals.
• Provides cash management for federal grant programs.
• Provides IRS/GAAP-related education to department personnel.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, public or business administration or a closely related field
