Job summary

Boston College seeks a skilled Physical Security Technician to support and maintain the university's Public Safety technology and building security systems across campus. You will work on IP video, access control, alarms, and related infrastructure, ensuring 24x7 operations and strong customer service.

The role requires experience with security systems, network basics, and collaboration with the Public Safety Department.

Qualifications

• Strong technical abilities to troubleshoot, support, and maintain critical physical security equipment supporting a 24x7 operation.
• Five years of experience as an in-field technician with hands-on experience in PublicSafety Technology and Building Security Systems.
• Education:Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Higher education experience preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and project planning skills.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for problem resolution.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
• Excellent customer service skills; strong commitment to customer service.
• Excellent coordination, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a group and as a member of a project team.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
• Understanding and comfortable working with basic IP networks.
• Experience with Google Suite.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb a ladder at least 15ft.
• Ability to travel across campus.
• Ability and experience using hand and power tools.
• Clean driving record required.

• Proficiency in reading and understanding security floorplans, architectural, and network diagrams

Responsibilities

• Support the technology needs of Boston College's Department of Public Safety and provide on-site support for physical security systems.
• Assist in supporting all Public Safety Technology across the University including MDT In-Vehicle Computers, LTE Trunk Routers, and radio systems.
• Support a 24x7 operation by troubleshooting, repairing, and installing Public Safety Technology and Building Security Systems.
• Collaborate with Public Safety staff and project teams to implement security infrastructure and improvements.
• Read and interpret security floorplans, architectural, and network diagrams to guide installations and maintenance.
