Job summary

Hillsborough Community College is seeking a Security Officer to coordinate safety and security activities across the campus and protect college property. The role includes scheduling for daily operations and events, supervising College and contract officers, and handling payroll and leave forms.

Ideal candidates will have 2+ years in security or an Associate’s in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement, plus CPR/First Aid, Class D license, and a valid Florida driver’s license.

Compensation Range:$24.99 - $39.64Position Summary:Hiring compensation range: $ 24.98 to $27.47 per hour depending on qualifications.Job Summary:Coordinates the safety and security activities for the College to ensure the safety and security of persons on college property and the protection of college property.• Prepares schedules for safety and security department for daily operation and for special events.• Supervises and trains College and contract security officers.• Initiates payroll and overtime compensation, sick, leave and vacation forms.• Investigates complaints regarding security officer conduct and handles discipline; also involved in hiring and firing of security officers.• Reviews daily reports submitted by officers.• Maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and visitors.• Conducts safety inspections.• Performs other similar and related duties as assigned.Additional Job Description:The position assists Security Supervisors in planning and coordinating safety and security activities for the assigned campus. Maintains a safe and secure environment for all persons on College property, as well as protects College property.Job Duties:Works with security supervisors in preparing work schedules and the planning and coordinating of daily operations and special events. (5%)On-site supervision and training of College and contract Public Safety Officers. (20%)Initiates payroll and overtime compensation, sick and vacation leave forms. (5%)Ensures keys, radios, vehicles, and all other office/security equipment are accounted for in their proper place and operating properly. (10%)Maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and visitors. (20%)Unlocks and secures buildings, classrooms, and offices. Sets, monitors and resets various alarm types. (10%)Prepares reports and work orders. (10%Reads and corrects documents prepared by other campus assigned public safety officers in order to avoid delays in processing. (10%)Serves as liaison with contractors for repair of department of public safety property. (10%)Minimum Qualifications:The position requires either (1) vocational or technical school beyond High School or a GED and at least two year of security guard or law enforcement experience, or (2) at least an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement.
