Job summary

UNC Health Care is seeking a Public Safety Specialist to provide a welcoming, professional presence at hospital access points and within the Public Safety Communications Center.

This non-sworn, unarmed position emphasizes safety, clear communication in emergencies, and the ability to learn and operate safety systems. Per diem work and onsite schedule apply, with opportunities to support multiple UNC Health facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in customer service, healthcare, communications, dispatch, public safety support, hospitality, or a related field preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, staff, and emergency personnel.
• Ability to remain calm and communicate clearly during stressful or emergency situations.
• Basic computer and technology skills.
• Ability to learn and operate assigned communications, weapons detection, access control, camera, and reporting systems.
• Ability to successfully complete required departmental orientation and training.
