Job summary

Columbia University seeks a Sergeant in Public Safety to supervise uniformed personnel and contract guards across campus sites (Morningside, Manhattanville or CUIMC). The role focuses on access control, patrols, posts, and event security.

Reporting to the Lieutenant and Senior Sergeant, you will manage dispatch operations, training, reporting, and shift coverage, with duties including holidays, nights and long shifts as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• A valid NYS Driver's License and a NYS Guard License are required.
• An 8-hour mandated training certificate must be completed annually.

Responsibilities

• Patrol on foot, in vehicle, or by bicycle; may be required to pass fitness tests.
• Coordinate response to emergencies using CAD; direct officers and coordinate resources.
• Operate dispatch center; manage alarms and radio communications; handle requests for assistance.
