Teachers College, Columbia University seeks a uniformed Public Safety Officer with Fire Safety Director Certification or ability to obtain certification. Responsibilities include campus patrols, access control, and incident reporting to protect the college community.

Work hours vary and shifts rotate; candidates must meet NYS security and FSD requirements, with benefits under the college’s CBA.

Qualifications

NYC Fire Safety Director Certification required or within 60 days of employment.
New York State Security Guard License required.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Five+ years as a public safety/security officer or similar role.
Ability to work rotating hours and overtime as needed.
Physical ability to climb stairs, stand/walk for long periods and lift 80 lbs.

Responsibilities

Provide safety and security services to the college community.
Stand fixed posts at safety desks or booths for perimeter security.
Patrol campus and surrounding areas.
Prepare safety/security reports and logs; maintain records.
Assist inspections of facilities, lighting, and fire safety systems.
Coordinate with Facilities, Resident Services and others; maintain professional appearance.
Control access for pedestrians and vehicles; monitor CCTV and alarms.
Participate in fire drills and special event security.
