Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Public Safety RF Programmer Analyst to configure, program, and support radios across multiple departments, including the Sheriff’s Office. You will work with RF engineers and technicians, deploy firmware updates, train users, and maintain comprehensive programming records to ensure reliable, mission-critical communications in the field.

The role involves hands-on work with Motorola CPS, extensive documentation, and occasional field deployments.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience configuring radio templates and programming support for Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Communications Technology, Information Systems, or related field; combination of education/experience may substitute.

Responsibilities

  • Program and update portable, mobile, and base radios using vendor-specific software (e.g., Motorola CPS, Radio Management).
  • Deploy firmware updates.
  • Provide end-user support for radio issues and coordinate repairs.
  • Develop and maintain code plugs and programming templates for various user roles and departments.
  • Maintain detailed programming records, inventory databases, and change logs.
  • Deprogram radios and prepare them for disposal.
  • Train personnel on radio usage, features, and protocols.
  • Generate reports on radio firmware and programming versions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

As a Public Safety/RF Programmer Analyst, you’ll configure and program radios, train users, troubleshoot communication issues, and maintain vital programming records for departments across the County, including the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. We Require
  • One year of experience in the configuration of radio templates and programming support of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) equipment

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Communications Technology, Information Systems, or related field

  • A combination of post‑secondary education and/or job‑related experience may substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

  • Familiarity with trunked radio systems, P25 digital standards, encryption, and simulcast technologies

  • Understanding of RF fundamentals

  • Ability to maintain detailed inventory records

Job Contributions

Working Conditions
  • Exerting 50‑100 lbs. occasionally, 10‑25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10‑20 lbs. constantly.

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties & responsibilities the employee maybe exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
