Job summary

The City of Fort Wayne is seeking an Information/Computer Input Technician for the Police Records unit (B shift 2:30p-10:30p). The role supports the Records Division by handling non-emergency calls, processing police records and assisting the public in a confidential manner.

Applicants should have an associate degree in criminal justice or related field and at least one year in records or data-entry plus strong organizational and communication skills. City post-offer screening applies.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in criminal justice or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year of experience in records, data-entry or administrative environment.
  • Strong organization, communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to pass the City's post-offer screening process.

Responsibilities

  • Answer non-emergency calls, gather essential information and direct callers to the appropriate service.
  • Enter police reports, citations, protective orders, stolen-property records, tow information and calls for service.
  • Process background checks, criminal-history requests, handgun permit information and vehicle releases.
  • Assist citizens, police personnel, towing providers and outside agencies by phone and in person.
  • Review, enter and release law-enforcement information while maintaining strict confidentiality.
