Job summary

Dallas County is seeking a skilled technician to back up the Wireless Communications Manager for its public safety radio infrastructure. The role covers multi-site dispatch centers, fire stations, and equipment supporting essential public safety and law enforcement operations.

Responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining P25 radio systems, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring compliance with FCC and county policies.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in Electronics and six years of related experience.
• Preferred experience with Motorola P25 Simulcast GPS trunked radio systems or public safety/governmental communications.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes user needs and assists with system design for dispatch center layouts and site modifications.
• Performs preventive maintenance and daily repairs on P25 radio systems to ensure uptime and reliability.
• Maintains analog/digital land mobile radio systems and related equipment, including towers, EOC, and subscriber gear.
• Programs voice/data radio equipment to maintain readiness and system integrity.
• Backs up the Wireless Communications Manager and coordinates with vendors to manage projects within budget.
• Responds to on-call emergency issues during evenings, weekends, or holidays.
