Day Kimball Health is hiring for a Public Safety Officer to join our Public Safety department in Putnam, CT!

This position is part-time (32 hours per week), night shift (11 PM - 7 AM), with rotating weekends.

Job Summary:

Provides public safety services for all persons on hospital premises and protects hospital property from fire, theft, or vandalism. Performs switchboard operator and dispatch duties, including answering and directing calls, operating fire alarm panels, and emergency paging systems. Clearly directs emergency responders and interacts effectively with people under stressful circumstances, taking appropriate actions such as managing crisis situations, fire alarms, and hazardous material spills.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducts regular patrols of the hospital and grounds to ensure safety and security, interacting with staff and law enforcement, and reporting criminal behavior.
  • Maintains a visible presence in the Emergency Department, performing security functions under the supervision of the Public Safety Manager or Lead Officer.
  • Responds to security and safety calls, assists with helicopter landings, and handles emergency situations.
  • Performs fire drills, fire extinguisher inspections, and exterior lighting surveys.
  • Operates the hospital switchboard, ensuring effective communication and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains fire alarm and emergency paging system operations, and manages overhead emergency announcements.
  • Reports issues with switchboard operations promptly.
  • Prepares shift logs and incident reports.
  • Handles Lost and Found items, maintains logs, and stores valuables securely.
  • Performs patient and visitor searches for contraband or dangerous items.
  • Monitors CCTV cameras for suspicious activity.
  • Enforces hospital access control, issues badges, and manufactures ID badges.
  • Manages key inventories and issues keys to staff.
  • Responds to emergencies with crowd and vehicle control, and hospital lockdown procedures.
  • Handles alarm notifications, contacts police, and coordinates with offsite key holders and facilities management.
  • Performs parking lot patrols, enforces parking policies, and updates related logs.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid CT Security Officer License (Guard Card).
  • Completion or verification of certifications in Management of Aggressive Behavior, Hospital Fire Brigade, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Lift and Assist within 30 days of employment.
  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years security or related experience.
