Job summary

Duties

• Partner with the Guest Services team to enhance security and to create a patient- and family-centered culture.
• Responsible for day-to-day operations at entrances by maintaining a safe environment and utilizing the weapons detection systems.
• Provide superior customer service and be trained in de-escalation techniques and conflict management.
• Work closely with internal security patrols of JHMI buildings to protect against illegal activities, theft, fire, hazardous conditions, infringements, etc., when/where necessary.
• Ensure no one enters the hospital with weapons or other unpermitted objects that could cause a safety issue.

Qualifications

• Possession of DC Security Officer License or must file for license within the first 2 weeks of employment. The successful candidate must obtain the Officer's license within the first 45 days of employment.
• Candidate must be 21 years of age or older to apply and test for the Security Police Officer License.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain and maintain any required endorsements or certifications.
• Candidates must have no more than 5 points on their MVR.
• Candidates must also have no more than 8 points from driving-related infractions, violations, or convictions, or no more than 15 or more points resulting from any type of non-valid license status (expired, suspended, etc.) on Samba risk assessment.
• Note: checks are completed separately; failing either requirement will disqualify the candidate from the pre-boarding process. SambaSafety evaluates driving risk; employees in driving-privilege roles are subject to ongoing monitoring.
• Successful completion of post-hire entry training including CPR, Stop the Bleed, Narcan, and de-escalation. Must maintain certification requirements.
• Certification in healthcare security (e.g., CHPA, CHSO) or other relevant security certifications is highly desirable.
• Minimum of one year of security experience is highly preferred.
• Successful completion of basic security officer training and customer service training within the first 90 days of hire.
• Previous hospital security experience is a plus.
• May have to work other shifts as necessary. 30-day notice prior to any shift change.

Shift

Full-Time (40 hours per week) — Day Shift. Weekend work required. Non-Exempt.

Salary Range: Minimum 18.85/hour - Maximum 28.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls before any subsequent compensation discussion.
