Location: Sherman hospital; Elgin, IL.
Full Time; 3rd Shift
Mix of 8-hour and 12-hour night shifts.
- Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion, adhering to policies, procedures, and training. Presents a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance to inspire confidence among patients, visitors, and staff. Maintains alertness, observance, and ethical standards. Enforces safety and security rules, and keeps department uniform and equipment in good condition.
- Performs interior and exterior patrols, including inspections for vulnerabilities, hazards, fire conditions, audits of safety measures, valuables management, and contraband searches. Assists and guides team members, patients, and visitors. Manages traffic and monitors conduct, confronting unauthorized persons as necessary.
- Responds to and investigates workplace violence, including service calls involving threatening or combative individuals. Acts as a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Prepares for and responds to emergencies such as infant abductions, fires, and active threats, providing immediate response and physical intervention when needed.
- Investigates incidents on hospital property, completes reports, and escalates issues appropriately.
- Conducts liaison rounds, builds partnerships across departments, and delivers security awareness education.
- Coordinates with law enforcement and first responders, ensuring policy compliance and safety during prisoner transport and other interactions.
- Maintains current training standards, including radio communication, de-escalation, CPR, restraints, Taser use, and department equipment training.
Position details:
- License/Certification: Healthcare Security Certification (CHSO), valid driver’s license, FOID or CCW license, and ability to obtain Firearm Control Card within 90 days.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: At least 1 year in security, public safety, or customer service involving emergency response.
- Skills: Illinois armed course completion, willingness to carry firearm, physical fitness, communication skills, and ability to handle stressful situations.
Physical requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, lift up to 35 lbs., and operate firearms safely.
- Correctable vision to 20/20, exposure to hazards, and ability to handle emotionally charged situations.
