Public Safety Officer I - Armed (Full Time, 3rd Shift)
This role offers a $5,000 Sign-On Bonus for External Hires through June 2025, paid in two installments. The position is located at Christ Medical Center, Oak Lawn, IL, working full time during the 3rd shift (10pm-6:30am).
Major Responsibilities
- Provide professional, fair, and compassionate security services, maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor. Enforce safety and security policies, and maintain department equipment.
- Conduct interior and exterior patrols, perform safety inspections, manage patient valuables, and assist visitors and staff with information and directions. Monitor conduct and control traffic.
- Respond to and investigate workplace violence and service calls involving potentially threatening individuals. Serve as a de-escalation resource.
- Plan and respond to emergencies, including fire, abductions, and active threats, and intervene physically when necessary.
- Investigate incidents, complete reports, and escalate issues appropriately. Conduct liaison rounding and deliver security awareness education.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and first responders, ensuring policy compliance and safety during prisoner transport.
- Maintain current training standards, including radio communication, de-escalation, CPR, restraints, and Taser use.
License/Certification Requirements
- Healthcare Security Officer Certification (CHSO) within two years of appointment.
- Valid driver’s license, FOID or CCW license, and ability to obtain a Firearm Control Card within 90 days.
- Certified in Taser use within 90 days of hire.
Educational and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Typically 1 year of experience in security, public safety, or customer service, especially in emergency response.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Completion of Illinois 40-hour armed course with pistol endorsement.
- Willingness to carry and maintain department-issued firearm and holster.
- Ability to pass firearms qualification annually and within probation.
- Judgment, communication skills, and ability to assess dangerous situations quickly.
- Proficiency with computers and documentation tools.
- Ability to physically restrain and handle stressful, aggressive situations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, lift up to 35 lbs, and operate firearms safely.
- Correctable vision to 20/20.
- Exposure to hazards and emotionally charged situations; must handle personal stress and assist with physical restraint if needed.
